Thankful for our Upgrade to a Reimagined Disney Wonder Concierge Suite at #DisneySMMC
I was invited to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration - Land and Sea. While some items were comped or discounted, I paid for our travel. As always, all opinions are my own.
This is the time of year when we often hear the word THANKFUL. We are full of thanks at Thanksgiving and often say that we are "thankful we are so blessed" or "thankful we are so lucky".
I think about those words - blessed and lucky - often because in this digital age we are exposed to so many lives on social media that seem just that - blessed and lucky. All the time. Nobody on Instagram looks like they've ever been sad or had a bad day.
I too am guilty of only posting pretty things. Mainly because I am an extremely private person who has no desire to share my family's personal struggles. Nor would I ever dare tell family stories that are not mine to share. And so, while 2017 certainly had it's share of bad luck or misfortune (whatever you choose to call it) it had hundreds of brilliant moments as well.
One of those moments was being invited to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration Land and Sea at Walt Disney World and on the Disney Wonder. When I was invited to DisneySMMC I was thrilled! I had a few not-so-Instagram-worthy hurdles to clear before I could make a public announcement, so I initially only shared the news in a small circle. When my guy and my daughter confirmed they couldn't attend, I happily invited my mom to join me at the first ever Disney Social Media Moms Celebration - Land and Sea. She said yes in a heartbeat!
We have brought my mom along to Hawaii with us twice (not as a Grandma the Babysitter BTW - she comes because I want her to have fun) but I hadn't traveled alone with her since I was a little girl. So here we were, both ready to embark on this Disney Social Media Moms adventure together. Her first time at Walt Disney World, our first time on Disney Cruise Line. Actually, our first cruise ever! But there was one more hurdle to clear. Cancer.
What many people don't know is: my dad has been fighting advanced cancer for a very long time. Not something I discuss or share because I respect his privacy. But for every, "OMG you're so lucky you get to go to DisneySMMC", I quietly wondered if I really would be able to go. See, my mom - who suffers from RA - is my father's caregiver. She is also her sister's caregiver. She also works full-time. Who would fill her shoes? What if she was in so much pain she had to cancel?
Thankfully, through the magic of hospice and my sister, we managed to fill mom's shoes so she could join me at DisneySMMC. Despite these struggles, we were in fact blessed and lucky to be on this amazing trip learning and sharing so much about Disney!
And just when we thought it couldn't get any better - a raffle happened during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration while onboard the Disney Wonder. Names were drawn for amazing prizes. And when the time came to pull out the last name I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be nice if we won for my mom who does so much for everyone else?" And then Leanne called my name.
And thanks to Disney Magic, we were thankful and blessed and lucky again.
The reimagined Disney Wonder is gorgeous. Our original stateroom we booked (with verandah) was already perfect, so you can imagine my surprise when I opened the door to the 1-bedroom concierge suite. The living room view directly out to sea was stunning. Also - hello - a separate verandah door!
Beautiful shelving and interesting pieces in the entertainment unit filled the living room with cool touches. In the evening the double convertible sofa was transformed into a bed.
The attention to detail is outstanding. Artwork by Disney Imagineer and Disney Legend Herb Ryman lined the walls of our concierge suite, bringing a touch of classic vintage beauty to the room. This artowrk caught my eye immediately.
We had a lovely little wet bar and kitchen area for enjoying our snacks and treats daily. This was kept stocked for us the whole time.
Splurging on calories is perfectly acceptable on Disney Cruise Line. You're welcome!
This view of the entryway shows a large closet to your left which can store SO MUCH LUGGAGE and the door to the first bathroom is on the right (from the direction of this photo).
This first bathroom has a rainfall shower with a sink and loo. Fabulous. A full bathroom!
The bedroom in this 1-bedroom suite is HUGE. The stateroom is 614 sq. ft. and I feel every inch was used wisely. You have the option to pull down the single bed from the wall if needed. There is another door onto the verandah (which I used repeatedly) and another television and multiple outlets for electronics.
The room leads into a large make-up vanity / desk, huge walk-in closet, whirlpool tub, double-sink vanity and second loo and shower. An insane amount of room for a family of 5.
The entire concierge experience onboard the Disney Wonder was a huge treat. This was definitely a dream come true. We were so well attended to and taken care. From a private lounge to cocktail hours, character photos, special treats, assistance with bookings and even a private spot to watch the fireworks - I can honestly say the concierge level is worth the extra money.
So please, when you review your year, don't compare your life to those photos that are impossible to live up to on Instagram. Know that we all have struggles we don't post. Believe that with a little faith, trust and pixie dust - the good will come. Start saving for your Disney Cruise Line vacation now. Trust me, you will feel beyond lucky and blessed once onboard. Make time with your family and loved ones and treat yourself to a truly Instagram-worthy trip!
HUGE THANKS TO THE ENTIRE DISNEY SOCIAL MEDIA MOMS CELEBRATION FOR THIS TRIP OF A LIFETIME FOR MY MOM AND I.
Disney is 100% about family and making memories that will last a lifetime. We can't wait to sail with Disney Cruise Line again!
