Date Nite at Disneyland
It's no secret that rather than calling it the "Happiest Place on Earth" I've always referred to Disneyland as the "Most Romantic Place on Earth". During the day, the park has that shy but happy glow and at night the park twinkles with a just a hint of soft light and everything transforms into a romantic world.
That's why I was floored when my love not-so-romantically announced, "Hey, I planned a trip to Disneyland for our birthday weekend. I hope you're surprised." Um, yes! He bought a Premium Annual Pass in May and we've taken a couple of trips as a family, but I never expected a weekend alone with him. Finally I get to experience Date Nite at Disneyland, just like the couples in the 50s!
Date Nite at Disneyland was a tradition that begin during the summers in the late 50s and carried on for a decade. Specially priced admission ticket packets, which included admission for two and select attraction "adventures", attracted couples of all ages. They dressed in their best date night outfits and danced the night away from Town Square to the Mark Twain. And now, I'd be having two of my very own Date Nites at Disneyland!
Being a Marriott guy, he booked a room with a view of Disneyland at the Fairfield Inn on Harbor. He requested a room with a view of the park just for me and it was pretty epic day and night.
Since it was just the two of us, we had time to really slow down the pace and enjoy our favorite park pastimes. We love to eat, drink and people watch our way around the parks. One of my favorite things to do is take photos from unique locations. Storybook Land Canal Boats is a fun, romantic ride with great photo opportunities.
We spent a lot of time enjoying appetizers and drinks at the Cove Bar as well as dinner at the Wine Country Trattoria.
Since we were there for two nights, we were able to watch World of Color and the fireworks. I was stoked he was able to enjoy World of Color because it's phenomenal!
Fireworks in front of this beautiful castle aren't too shabby either. Especially when you have someone to kiss. We watched the fireworks and went back to Carnation Plaza Gardens for a little more swing dancing.
We have distinct tastes when it comes to attractions. He LOVES Autotopia. Just like my daughter. I mean they LOVE it. I like it when it's not sunny outside, so I was happy to ride in the evening with him. We had a lot of fun on Autopia...a little too much fun. We may or may not have gotten into a little trouble with a Cast Member. Um, so moving on, we both totally agree that Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is pretty epic!
Our birthdays are only 4 days apart and always land on Labor Day weekend. Despite the crowds (it was Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend) and the warm weather - this was the most romantic time I've had at Disneyland. I am so thankful for the thoughtful birthday gift from the man who knows the way to my heart.
