Reliving the Miles: Retiring my Beloved Running Shoes
In late 2012 I set out to find a new pair of running shoes. I was about to run my first marathon, had been training intensely and knew it was time to step-up my footwear game. As you may recall from my initial review, it was then I met and fell in love with the Saucony Triumph 10.
Since December 2012 these shoes have carried me through my first 5K PR, my first full marathon, my first runDisney Goofy's Marathon and a Half, my first Nike Women's Marathon, my first half marathon PR and my first official 10K.
Up until last week they sat in my garage in the donation pile along with other forgotten items. After literally being my very foundation for hundreds and hundreds of miles, my heart could not bear to just give them away without a little bit of fanfare.
When the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration team announced we'd have a fun run Mother's Day morning, a light bulb went off. I decided to bring the shoes back to Walt Disney World for one last run through EPCOT before officially letting them go. It seemed fitting to retire them at the very place where they carried me 39.3 miles, truly through blood, sweat and tears.
And so, with much fanfare, on Mother's Day morning at 6:00am these beloved shoes ran their last mile - in EPCOT. These shoes are just as magical as the memories they've been a part of.
Through running I have learned to become one with the pavement, the dirt, the sun, the sounds, my mind, my body and my shoes. I am thankful to these shoes for carrying me throughout part of my journey, and I look forward to many more miles and many more adventures in my latest pair.
