This is not an April Fools' Joke: I'm going to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at Walt Disney World!
On Friday, March 20th I saw this Tweet in my feed while running errands.
I knew this could only mean one thing: the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration invitations had been emailed. I had a few more errands to run and was absolutely not expecting an invitation to such a coveted event, but I decided to check my email anyway. A couple of hours had passed since Leanne's post so either I was in, or I wasn't . There I sat, in the parking lot of a TJ Maxx, reading an email with my jaw wide open.
I was in.
The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is a prestigious invitation-only social media conference for mom and dad influencers, leaders and their families. For three years I have checked my email with bated breath hoping to find a golden ticket, and this year it was there.
I am so honored to have been selected to attend this magical conference where I will have the opportunity to learn from my peers and industry leaders. I look forward to seeing old friends from the Disney Social Media Moms on the Road San Francisco and Phoenix events as well as making new friends and new memories.
It's taken me a few days to make the major announcement because I had to be certain I could get the time off from work, find a reasonable flight, check the family calendars and either bring my family or make sure they could survive without me for a few days. Thankfully, my daughter will be joining me. We will be celebrating her high school graduation, her college decision and her 18th unbirthday while were are there. I could not be more excited! Oh wait, yes I can. Did I mention this year’s host hotel will be Disney’s Yacht Club Resort!?
Somebody pinch me.
As I booked flights and began planning our trip on the My Disney Experience site, I realized I have been to Walt Disney World 4 times in my entire life and each time I wore a ridiculous costume(s) or outfit.
In 1992 I attended Grad Nite (just in case you're trying to do the math: I graduated from high school when I was 10) at Magic Kingdom and wore this 90s hipster skirt and jacket combo with black panty hose. Grunge meets preppy. Yes, those are shoulder pads. I apologize.
Twenty years later I returned to Florida for my very first runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. I was dressed as the Cheshire Cat.
In 2013 I decided I could run 39.3 miles in one weekend and returned to Walt Disney World for Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. On this particular morning I was dressed as Disneyland. See the shirt and skirt? It was a stretch, yes, but I wanted to be as colorful as the iconic Disneyland sign.
Finally, in 2014 I was blessed to once again runDisney at Walt Disney World. The Persistent Princesses, a team of 4 of us runDisney loving ladies, won a trip to Princess Half Marathon Weekend where I wore several costumes. The Iron Man one was a favorite.
I am happy to say that for the first time ever, I will be traveling to Walt Disney World without shoulder pads, a foam roller, a costume, compressions shorts, a tail, anti-chafe cream or a sparkle skirt. I will simply be dressed as Jindy. I love my runDisney races, but I am looking forward to several new experiences and surprises at this event!
Throughout the conference weekend, I will be sharing details and photos from every pixie dusted moment. Be sure to follow along and show your #DisneySide as well. Thanks so much to all who made this possible. I feel so very thankful and blessed. I do not know how the selection is made, but I can tell you that if you are hoping to be invited - keep working. Keep writing, keep sharing, keep being honest and keep believing the dream that you wish will come true.
